Situated just east of one of the foremost well-liked treks of Nepal, the Annapurna Base Camp trek,
the Mardi Himal trek may be a hidden gem. Few trekkers create their way to the Mardi Himal Base
Camp stunningly placed at the bottom of Mardi Himal and also the spectacular Machapuchhre.
The path goes on little winding ways, through magical rhododendron forests until you climb out of
the woods at an elevation around 3,300 m. The landscape changes quite short into a rugged high
mountain landscape, with fantastic views of Mardi Himal, Machapuchre, Annapurna South and
Hiunchuli.
From High Camp (3580 m; some maps incorrectly mention 3900 m) you’ll be able to climb up to
Mardi Himal Base Camp in regarding 3-4 hours, which offers spectacular close up views of the
entire Annapurna Range. There are comfortable guesthouses and homestays on the whole route. If
you propose to try and do this trek within the winter months, please talk over with {a local|a
neighbourhood} tour operator if the lodges are open.
Detail Itinerary
Day 01: Flight Kathmandu – Pokhara (or drive 7 hrs) – drive to Kande – trek to Forest Camp (2500
m) 6 hrs
Day 02: Forest Camp (2500 m) – Low Camp (2990 m) 2.5 hrs
Day 03: Low Camp (2990 m) – High Camp (3580 m) three hrs
Day 04: High Camp (3580 m) – Mardi Himal Base Camp (4450 m) and back to High Camp seven
hrs
Day 05: High Camp (3580 m) – (1885 m) 5 hrs
Day 06: (1885 m) – Lwang (1460 m) 5 hrs
Day 07: Lwang (1460 m) – Hyangjakot (1545 m) and down to the road at (1100 m) 4 hrs – drive
back to Pokhara 1/2 h
